ABBA Resorts Izu
Itō, Shizuoka
Overview
- Nature, in all its unspoilt beauty, sets the harmonious scene for Japan’s first ABBA resort. From its humble beginnings half a century ago, when it was a small traditional ryokan, Izu has evolved into a spacious yet intimate retreat. With world-class restaurants and even opportunities to experience Japanese cultural activities, this boutique hotel is perfect for rest and play.
The ancient meaning of the resort’s name translates as ‘sit back and enjoy’. It’s easy to understand why as you slip off your shoes in the tranquil, fragrant atmosphere of your guest room or villa. Designed with pared-back elegance, floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto your own garden paradise. Sink into warm, open-air baths, circled by old bayberry trees, delicate iris flowers and Japanese spurge. You’ll soon drift away into a state of Zen-like bliss in the mineral water bubbling up from the Ukiyama Hot Springs.
Culture is on your doorstep too with the Swords Art Gallery. Its display of rare, precious antique swords offer an exclusive glimpse into Japan’s history. If you fancy getting out and about, explore the local neighbourhood by bike. Or hike across the volcanic landscapes of the Jogasaki Coast and Mount Omuro. Here in winter and spring, the Izu Highlands and Cherry Blossom Izu Festival is an unmissable, picture perfect event.

COVID-19 SANITATION & SAFETY GUIDELINES
Our 'Stay Small, Stay Safe’ initiative offers enhanced health and detailed safety guidelines for all 520 SLH hotels in 90 countries.
With just 50 rooms on average, SLH properties are able to offer secluded, discrete options with the highest safety standards. Our hotels commit to welcome you on the safest conditions and provide examples of their heightened standards for hygiene on their hotel page.
The programme provides peace of mind for guests as they prepare to travel the world once again. The ‘Stay Small, Stay Safe’ initiative acknowledges the desire for intimate hotel experiences with fewer crowds that travellers are seeking.
In order to safeguard these standards, SLH has entered a partnership with the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) for its hotels to pursue GBAC STAR™ accreditation, which provides third-party validation to ensure hotels have the elevated cleaning protocols, disinfection techniques and work practices in place so guests can truly relax during their stay.
All SLH hotels are currently seeking GBAC STAR accreditation.
